Iceberg lettuce
Iceberg lettuce originates from the United States and is a member of the batavia family. There are several varieties, the most common in France being “Reine des Glaces”, “Balmoral”, “Blonde de Paris” and “Great Lakes 659”. It has a round, cabbage-like shape. The leaves are arranged in such a way that they curl around each other. The leaves are rather tightly packed, with a light green colour in the centre, darkening on the outside. Crisp and crunchy when fresh, they have a mild flavour.
Iceberg lettuce is very low in calories and is known to be suitable for a diet that promotes intestinal well-being and weight loss. It is also a source of nutrients, vitamins and fibre.
