The **Yellow Onion**, also called straw onion, is the bulb of a vegetable plant. It belongs to the allium family. The yellow onion bulb is made up of several layers of leaves: light-colored, juicy, fleshy, and above all, strong in taste. It gets its name from the color of the last leaf covering it: a thin skin of yellow or brown color. Richer in sulfur, the yellow onion distinguishes itself from the white onion with a much stronger and more particular taste.
The yellow onion is used in the preparation of many dishes. It is cooked as a vegetable or as a flavoring agent. Consumed raw or cooked, the onion is a true source of vitamins, mineral salts, and many other benefits. It is available in market stalls year-round.
